The capacity of the combustible garbage pit is approximately 15,000 square meters, with a height of some 42 meters. The largest amount of garbage that the crane can pick up at one time is about 12 tons. Roughly once every 20 minutes a load of garbage is picked up and put into the incinerator. If the timing is right, you'll be lucky enough to see the crane in action.

Close to 2,000 people visit the Maishima Plant each month.
The highlight of the plant tour is surely the garbage pit. The pit is so deep that it seems as if you're going to be sucked in as you look down on it. The sight of the huge crane picking up the garbage is also very impressive when you see it upclose.
And it is also safe to say that the smell in the plant is practically nonexistent. Because the air on the platform is drawn in to help incenerate the garbage, the system has been designed so that no odor will be released outside.
